Kylian Mbappe wants a release clause in his Paris Saint-Germain contract, according to reports. The Frenchman could be getting ready to leave the club.
Kylian Mbappe is demanding a release clause from Paris Saint-Germain. That’s according to Spanish outlet AS, who cover Real Madrid’s interest in the situation.
They claim that PSG may have to sell the Frenchman this summer as his contract expires in 2022. Real hope to secure a deal worth £160m but the Parisians still want a new contract.
Mbappe, however, wants a middle ground. He supposedly wants a release clause that ensures him an exit. At the same time, however, he wants to guarantee PSG a fee for him, if he does leave.
What RTK has to say
L’Equipe claimed in September that Liverpool are also interested in Mbappe. They are in regular contact with the right people, in fact, and very much in this fight.
The release clause could work in their favour, then. It would guarantee that Real can’t simply outbid them for Mbappe, as Los Blancos have done on players for years.
It would simply come down to who can convince the player to join them. And we’d fancy Liverpool’s chances there more than if this came down to the highest transfer fee.
Mbappe is the biggest signing that Liverpool – or any club – can make. He’s the superstar of the next generation and he’ll command the highest fee.
Liverpool will want him. If they can afford him, he’s the face of their next generation.
£160m is an awful lot, though. A release clause could raise that or lower it, of course, but it’ll certainly be in that range.
The Reds will need to decide if Mbappe is worth the same as three or four elite talents. He very well might be.
