The absence of Mohamed Salah gives Diogo Jota the chance to prove he’s a fantastically versatile player. The Portuguese forward arrived in the summer.
Mohamed Salah be another major absence when Liverpool take on Leicester City, according to the BBC. That’s the first game back after the international break and it’s a big one.
They’re the league leaders, after all, while Liverpool are already without Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
And it seems Salah, too. The Egyptian is the latest Liverpool player to join the list of missing stars.
This does hand an opportunity to Diogo Jota, though. The Portuguese forward joined in the summer for £41m and has lit the place up since.
Jota has six goals in his last four games and the really impressive thing is that he’s done it while being versatile.
The 23-year-old has covered for Sadio Mane on the left, Roberto Firmino down the middle, and joined up with the usual front-three as a front-four.
Now, though, he’s got the chance to cover Salah as a right-winger. If he can do that competently, Jota will prove that he’s a real 4-in-1 player.
From the left, from the right, down the middle, and as an extra, Jota would be an option for whatever Jurgen Klopp wants to do up top.
Can you even ask for more than that from what is essentially a squad player?
Jota wasn’t brought in to replace anyone, after all. He came in as an option in reserve and he’s proving to be good enough to cover literally everyone.
He’s already done so much to prove his worth but playing four roles would make Jota an unbelievable bargain.
