Liverpool have suffered a string of harsh injury blows in the past few months. The Reds have seen key stars sidelined for extended period due to knocks, niggles and illnesses. One key man has been ruled out for the season. Speaking ahead of the international break, Gini Wijnaldum has said that Virgil van Dijk is going through hell with his injury.

Van Dijk injury
It was an awful day, it’s horrible even typing about it.
The Merseyside Derby, Goodison Park, 2020. The day when the Reds defence was changed forever, or at least for 7-8 months.
A ball was looped to the back post and Virgil van Dijk beat Jordan Pickford to it, only to have the goalkeeper recklessly fly in at his knees.
The collision forced the centre back off the pitch and the next day we learned that the Dutchman had ruptured his ACL and would be out for the season.
Wijnaldum on Van Dijk injury
Speaking to VI in the Netherlands ahead of the international break, Gini Wijnaldum spoke about how Virgil van Dijk is handling his catastrophic injury. The midfielder said of his teammate:
“Virgil will return with God’s will.
“It is a difficult time for him; this is the worst thing you can experience as a football player. You go through hell.
“But I think he is very strong. We FaceTime every now and then and that is very nice.”
What RTK has to say
The Reds have managed just fine without the big man so far.
This only begs the question: just how good will we be when he returns?
Wijnaldum is right about Van Dijk though, it must be hell for the man. He hadn’t missed a minute before his injury, he was an ever present rock.
Fingers crossed he is back on the training ground sooner rather than later, we miss you Virg.
