Liverpool have had a nightmare start to the season fitness wise. The Reds have seen their squad dropping like flies in recent weeks. Jürgen Klopp has called for more substitutes to be allowed to solve the problem but his pleas have fallen on deaf ears, the problem has worsened as Joe Gomez has picked up an injury on international duty.
Liverpool injury crisis
Liverpool’s injury crisis has been an ongoing theme of the season.
The Reds have lost a host of players throughout the campaign, some to injury and some to illness.
We’ve seen Alisson Becker sidelined for weeks with a shoulder knock.
Joel Matip has been on the treatment table with a muscle problem.
Virgil van Dijk is out for the season with an ACL rupture.
Thiago has been sidelined by COVID and a petulant Richarlison tackle.
Fabinho has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.
The list goes on and on and on. At some point our bad luck has to end, surely?
Joe Gomez injury
Paul Joyce has tweeted that Joe Gomez has picked up an injury on international duty with England.
The defender is said to have picked up the problem during training and Gareth Southgate will reportedly update us in a press conference shortly.
This is a repeat of last year when Joe Gomez sustained an injury during the November international break in England training.
What RTK has to say
When will this nightmare end?
If Joe Gomez is unavailable to face Leicester City then we could see Joel Matip lineup alongside Fabinho – if we’re lucky.
Otherwise Rhys Williams will be forced back into the first team lineup, although he did impress when given an opportunity it is just not ideal to play him in such a big game.
Fingers crossed the injury is nothing serious and JoGo will be fit in a fortnight.
