Victor Osimhen is surely still impressing Liverpool after summer links between the two. The forward bagged a match-winner on Sunday.
Instead, he went to Napoli. One look at the fee tells you why – a reported £63m initial deal, per ESPN.
Liverpool were never likely to match that for a 21-year-old who still isn’t a sure-fire star.
Osimhen’s 18 goals for Lille last season will naturally make him a target but it was only one season in a top-5 league. Liverpool would want more than that before spending that kind of money.

Still, the player is just 21. There’s room for a future move, then, as he’s a player who should only get better at the right club.
With that in mind, Liverpool must like what they see from his start with Napoli.
Osimhen is a young player in a new country, in a tougher league, with more expectation than ever. Despite all of that, he looks good.
The pinnacle arguably came on Sunday as Osimhen directed a fine header into the net to beat Bologna 1-0.
But really, his overall performances are impressive on the whole. He’s won at least one tackle in every start, for instance, and created five chances in those five games, too.
His one substitute appearance saw him create four chances in 29 minutes, in fact – he can support his teammates, if need be.
The Nigerian is a prolific shot-taker, too. Five starts and 25 shots show that, even if Osimhen isn’t quite finding the back of the net with a high percentage.
Still, two goals in five starts is good going at 21.
The interesting thing about Osimhen, then, is how versatile he is. And that will appeal to Liverpool.
They want forwards who can create as well as score. Who can defend when needed and run with the ball.
Osimhen is showing he can do all of that already and as we said earlier, he should only get better.
If he starts turning those shots into goals, he’ll become a star. Then Liverpool may start looking at his price once again because Osimhen is beginning to look like a very good fit for the club.
