Mohamed Salah has a sensational record against new Man City defender Nathan Ake. The Egyptian will hope to continue it today.
Mohamed Salah takes on Man City today in the knowledge that he usually comes out on top against one of their defenders. His record against Nathan Ake is truly fantastic.
This is during Ake’s time with Bournemouth, of course. But Salah’s goalscoring record against the Cherries is as good as against anyone.
He’s scored eight times – and assisted one more – in just six games against Bournemouth. Ake started every single one of those games and, as the left-sided centre-half, frequently came up against Salah.
And Ake certainly won’t want to come up against the Egyptian today. Salah is on fire, for one, scoring seven goals in seven Premier League games and adding two in three Champions League games.

The question is whether Ake starts, however.
Liverpool’s attack is in red-hot form and that asks questions of Pep Guardiola as much as it does Jurgen Klopp. Klopp will be wondering whether to play Roberto Firmino or Diogo Jota. Guardiola will be trying to figure out how to stop any of the forwards Liverpool put out.
Ake hasn’t been an automatic choice recently, though. He did start the game against Olympiakos in midweek but that might actually rule him out of this one.
It was Ake’s first appearance for five games, having sat out with an injury after City’s win over Arsenal.
Will Guardiola throw him in for this one, then? We’re not sure. The £40m signing isn’t in the Manchester Evening News’ predicted lineup but it’ll come down to fitness and how important the City boss sees him.
They paid big money for him, presumably meaning they see him as a valuable asset who makes their best XI. And Salah will surely hope that’s exactly what happens.
