Diogo Jota tops the Premier League in an unusual statistic over the last few years. It’s undoubtedly a positive for the player.
Diogo Jota is playing far above expectations right now. The forward arrived from Wolves in September for around £41m as a backup for the usual front-three.
But here we are in early November and he’s got six goals in four games. His hattrick against Atalanta was remarkable and right now, Jota looks like truly sensational signing.
He’s proving virtually impossible to defend as he’s two-footed, quick, and smart with his movement. But we should have seen that coming, in truth.
Defenders clearly struggle to deal with Jota as he tops the Premier League in a remarkable statistic. Per the Daily Mail, more players have been sent-off for fouling Jota than any other player since 2018.

A total of five have had marching orders, putting him ahead of second-place Wilfried Zaha (4). The surprising thing there is that Zaha is fouled far more than Jota.
Talksport put out rankings of the most-fouled players back in February. Jota was ninth on the list with 45 fouls – way behind Zaha on 84.
Yet Jota gets more players sent off. We can only put that down to the difficulty in stopping the ex-Wolves man. He clearly forces players into desperate fouls consistently, rather than just niggling little challenges.
His form since joining Liverpool shows how tough it is to stop him, of course. In most cases, defences simply can’t – as Atalanta found out.
And if he keeps this level going, even more players will be forced into those desperate challenges as they try to stop him. That can only benefit Liverpool.
