Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo loves what he’s seeing from Diogo Jota at Liverpool. The player moved from one club to the other this year.
Diogo Jota is on fire. The forward has six goals in his last four games, despite not playing 90 minutes in any of those fixtures, quickly establishing himself at Liverpool.
Jota arrived from Wolves in September for around £41m, presumably as cover for the regular front-three. Right now, however, he’s the most in-form player at Liverpool.
So what’s the feeling at Wolves? They gave the player up, after all, and are watching him quickly develop into an elite talent. Well, if Nuno Espirito Santo is anything to go by, they couldn’t be happier.
“We are very happy for Diogo,” he said, per the Liverpool Echo. “He is enjoying his football, enjoying his momentum, he is doing amazing for Liverpool.
“I think [Jurgen] Klopp is really happy with him. For us, we worked together for four seasons and when a player goes and succeeds it makes us happy.
“In the case of Diogo, it’s not a surprise. Diogo loves the game, he is committed, he lives for football, he plays and watches all the games.
“I am really happy for Diogo and I hope he continues and enjoys it game by game. It’s a joy to see him smile.”
What RTK has to say
This is just really nice to see. Wolves could have felt all kinds of emotions with Jota succeeding with Liverpool – regret, frustration, bitterness – but Santo comes across as nothing but happy for the player.
Would they sell him in hindsight? Perhaps not, as it does seem like Jota will be worth far more than £41m by the end of the season. He’s clearly a player who left a wonderfully positive impression on the people at Wolves, though.
And it’s safe to say he’s doing the same at Liverpool, too.
