Liverpool need to pray Joe Gomez doesn't repeat England injury

Liverpool have been incredibly unlucky with injuries this year. Jürgen Klopp has lost a host of players to knocks and niggles and pandemic related illnesses. As the international break approaches the boss will be hoping there aren’t any further absences. Liverpool need to pray Joe Gomez doesn’t pick up another England duty injury.

Liverpool injuries

Since the start of the season Jürgen Klopp has lost man after man to injury and illness.

He’s seen Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Thiago all sidelined by positive COVID-19 tests.

The boss has also lost Virgil van Dijk for the season due to Jordan Pickford’s horror tackle in the Merseyside Derby.

Since then Joel Matip has been sidelined and Fabinho has also been ruled out.

There has also been spells out for Jordan Henderson, Alisson Becker and a number of other stars.

England trio called up

The England squad was announced today and it included three Liverpool players.

Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson were called up by Gareth Southgate.

The Three Lions will play two friendly games at home, taking on New Zealand and the Republic of Ireland at Wembley.

Joe Gomez injury

Liverpool fans will be hoping that Joe Gomez doesn’t pick up another England duty injury.

This time last year the defender had a rollercoaster week. The Reds beat Man City 3-1 and days later JoGo was involved in a national camp bust up with Raheem Sterling – a confrontation which saw Sterling excluded from the following game.

Gomez was subsequently booed when he came on against Montenegro. A day later, Gomez picked up a knee injury in training when he collided with Kieran Trippier.

Given the dearth of depth in the centre of defence at the moment, any period sidelined would be devastating.
