Liverpool have made some smart purchases in recent windows. Michael Edwards has earned a reputation as something of an oracle, identifying players on the verge of hitting their finest form and bringing them in for bargain prices. One man has hit such good form that his previous side have come under fire – Marca has slammed Atletico Madrid for the ‘fiasco’ of their handling of Diogo Jota.
Liverpool sign Jota
The Reds bringing in Diogo Jota took us all by surprise.
All summer there had been talk of Thiago Alcantara coming in. The Spaniard was linked for what felt like eternity before a deal was eventually struck.
It was expected after the Thiago arrival that the club would pursue a deal with the persistently linked Ismaila Sarr.
Instead, just hours after the deal for the Spaniard was tied up, Liverpool had reportedly agreed a deal to sign Diogo Jota from Wolves for £41m.
Atletico Madrid and Jota
The Reds brought Jota in from Wolves who in turn signed him from Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish capital side brought him in from Portugal in 2016 and immediately loaned him to Porto for the season.
Jota was sold to Wolves without making a single appearance for Atleti.
Such is the form of the 23-year-old for Liverpool, Marca has slammed Diego Simeone’s side for their handling of the player, referring to the period as the ‘Atletico fiasco’, labelling the decision to sell him a ‘bad deal’.
The outlet clearly feeling the treatment of the Portuguese player was rash to say the least – suggesting he shouldn’ve been given more time.
What RTK has to say
Seriously, what is it that Liverpool sees that nobody else does?
It’s as if we have access to data that no other side has. We keep spotting players who are going to become world beaters.
Diogo Jota’s signing appears to be an inspired one, his hattrick against Atalanta was sublime.
It is no surprise that Atleti have been criticised for letting him go when he is in such fine form – fingers crossed they live to regret the decision even further.
