Liverpool caution with Thiago is frustrating but necessary

Liverpool have made some statement signings over the years but this summer saw possibly their biggest one yet. Despite all of the excitement surrounding our star buy we haven’t seen much at all of him. Liverpool exercising a cautious approach with Thiago is frustrating but absolutely necessary.

Liverpool sign Thiago

The Liverpool pursuit of Thiago lasted all summer, it was a real rollercoaster for Kopites.

We were first linked with him before the Champions League concluded, when it emerged that the Spaniard didn’t want to renew his contract at Bayern Munich.

Eventually, it was announced that Michael Edwards had negotiated a £20m deal for the midfielder, with the fee to be split over the four years of his contract at Anfield.

Thiago absences

Since arriving on Merseyside, Thiago has been dreadfully unlucky with his availability.

The Spaniard has been ruled out due to a positive COVID-19 test and has since picked up a knock in the Merseyside Derby.

We are still yet to see Thiago since the Everton game after Richarlison thuggishly flew in at the Spaniard in the closing minutes.

Cautious approach necessary

Whilst it may be frustrating for Kopites to see Thiago sidelined for so long, it is a necessarily cautious approach.

The Reds are being sensible in not rushing the midfielder back into action.

At 29-years-old we need to be careful not to exacerbate any injuries he picks up and we need ot make sure that when he does come back he can remain in the side for a few weeks at a time.

The midfielder is said to have not trained this week but we’re hopeful this is just another cautious measure with the gaffer hopefully thinking of reintroducing him to the side in Sunday’s tie with Manchester City.
