Liverpool had an excellent summer transfer window. The Reds brought in a trio of signings to add depth and quality to the side. One man has already been banging in important goals, the other has shown us flashes of brilliance between absences. Some of the Reds’ most important moves of the window could be the ones that didn’t happen. Jürgen Klopp has detailed his delight at having Xherdan Shaqiri in the side after he was tipped for a summer exit.

Xherdan STAYqiri
I am deeply sorry for typing out Stayqiri, it isn’t that good of a pun but you’ve just got to back yourself at times.
Over the summer Xherdan Shaqiri was one of a host of Liverpool players tipped for an Anfield exit. The Swiss international had been linked with moves to Italy, Turkey and Germany.
There has even been claims from Turkey that, until the last minute, the winger was set to join Fenerbahce on loan.
The ex-Bayern man ended up staying at Anfield and has put in some impressive performances. At the weekend he showed his quality with a silky through ball to Diogo Jota for the Reds’ winner over West Ham United.
Klopp on Shaqiri
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Jürgen Klopp lavished praise on Xherdan Shaqiri, detailing how delighted he is to still have him in the squad.
Given the injuries the Reds have faced and the congested fixture list, the diminutive creative player will likely get more minutes than last year. Klopp said of Shaqiri:
“He’s a versatile player. Sometimes players have a bad run with injuries. Now everything is fine, good for him and even better for us because we missed him last year. He’s had a massive impact. So happy to have him back.”
What RTK has to say
Fingers crossed the wee man can keep fit this season. Whenever he plays, he excites.
At the weekend he made an instant impact with his quick use of the ball and his direct running and vision.
We’ve been watching his assist for Jota on loop, it was a moment of real class as he found the gap to slide it through to the Portuguese star.
Hopefully he’ll maintain his fitness and his strong form – he’s earned further opportunities.
