Liverpool once again got over the line this weekend. Just about. The Reds edged yet another Premier League victory thanks to the determination of the substitutes. One man in particular put in a standout, a man of the match, performance. Liverpool fans have been raving over Nat Phillips after his debut.

Liverpool 2-1 West Ham

Liverpool have a reputation for being a bit arrogant, both in the dugout and the fan base. This is entirely unfair.

In fact, the Reds are so gracious that they always let the opposition score first at Anfield; you know, as a sign of hospitality.

We continued this tradition this weekend as West Ham went 1-0 up after just 10 minutes.

Joe Gomez politely cushioned a header out for Pablo Fornals, the Spaniard promptly firing past Alisson.

Parity was restored when Mo Salah converted a penalty which he won.

After halftime the game appeared stagnant, the hosts dominating possession but doing little with it.

Diogo Jota changed that when he emphatically finished Xherdan Shaqiri’s delicate through ball – the Portuguese star netting yet another winner.

Nat Phillips MOTM

23-year-old Nat Phillips made his Premier League debut for Liverpool in the heart of the defence.

The Reds are without Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Fabinho, leaving the manager forced into rummaging around the squad.

The ex-Bolton man put in a superlative performance in the heart of the defence, earning the Man of the Match award from Jamie Carragher at Sky Sports.

Liverpool fans have been justifiably made up with Nat Phillips’ debut.

One fan was made up despite early nerves.

Another was massively reassured.

He performed magnificently despite the pressures.

He drew some pretty lofty comparisons.

Like, very lofty.

One fan even opted for a Batman quote.
