A new report claims Fabinho will miss the clash with Manchester City next month. The game promises to be one of the season’s absolute biggest.
The Liverpool Echo claims Fabinho will miss ‘at least the next three games’, ruling him out of the Manchester City meeting. That game – the last before the international break – is a huge one.
Fabinho went off against FC Midtjylland on Tuesday, the latest casualty in defence. Both Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are out, the former long-term, leaving Liverpool very short.
Joe Gomez is now the only senior centre-half available to Jurgen Klopp. Rhys Williams could step up from the academy but he’s never played in the Premier League before.
And it now seems that this will be the situation when Liverpool travel to the Etihad Stadium early next month.

Liverpool defended terribly the last time they played away to City. Gomez, in particular, struggled, causing Klopp to withdraw him at half-time.
Funnily enough, that was the first suggestion that Klopp could use Fabinho as a centre-half option. If Matip isn’t fit, he almost certainly would have started him there this time around.
Instead, Liverpool will almost certainly be without the Brazilian. The gameplan, then, might be to use Williams enough over the next two games and get him ready.
But that still seems like a risk. He’s a teenager with very little experience – is he ready to go up against one of the world’s best? Can he possibly be ready on such short notice?
Other options would be Jordan Henderson at centre-half, or to change the system completely. That’s what Klopp did back in 2017 when he lacked defenders – and with success.
We’ll have to wait and see. But on the face of it, that game against City is going to be a real struggle.
