Liverpool 2-0 FC Midtjylland
This Tuesday night the Reds were lacklustre in the first half to say the least.
A thoroughly rotated attacking lineup failed to create any big chances of note, though Takumi Minamino was a willing runner throughout.
The scoring was opened when Diogo Jota netted the Reds 10,000th goal, tapping in a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross.
There were a few shaky moments at the end of the game but Mo Salah converting a penalty in injury time put the tie to bed.
Klopp on Henderson substitution
At halftime Gini Wijnaldum was brought on with the Reds’ skipper making way.
Hendo had been dictating the play in midfield, barking orders at every last one of his teammates. He was one of the few to make things happen.
Fans were worried when he was withdrawn ahead of the second half, given the injury worries surrounding the club at the minute some supporters were on edge wondering whether the skipper had picked up a knock.
David Lynch reported that Jürgen Klopp explained the Jordan Henderson substitution, confirming that it was planned and that the captain wanted to stay on.
What RTK has to say
An injury to Jordan Henderson is the last thing we need right now.
The Reds are short on men, we’ve lost two centre backs to injury and our first choice defensive midfielder/backup centre back to a hamstring problem. Not to mention Naby Keita’s absence.
Thankfully it looks as though bringing off the captain was just a precaution and he should be fit to face West Ham at the weekend.
