Liverpool are somehow joint top of the league (on points). The Reds have had their most challenging start to a season in recent memory, contending with bizarre refereeing errors, a 7-2 defeat and the loss of their talismanic centre back. Despite all of this, we are still joint top (on points). We are also top despite not having fielded our strongest Liverpool lineup yet – this weekend could be the perfect opportunity.

Injury woes
Liverpool have struggled with a series of niggling injuries throughout this campaign.
We’ve lost a number of players at one time or another to positive COVID tests.
We’ve also seen injuries rob us of key stars such as Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip.
More serious problems have sidelined Alisson Becker and, for the rest of the season, Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool’s best lineup
We need to preface this with the disclaimer that Virgil van Dijk has been discounted from this lineup. The Dutchman isn’t a consideration for the rest of the season so he doesn’t make this lineup.
Having said that, this ‘best lineup’ focuses on the combination of players ahead of the defence.

If Jürgen Klopp sticks with the 4-2-3-1 then we could be in for a real treat with Thiago supplying balls for the new ‘Fab Four’ up top.
Roberto Firmino will recover his form as a number 10 whilst Diogo Jota will continue to impress when playing up top – the two wide men will remain typically brilliant.
All of this will be possible thanks to the industry and determination of Jordan Henderson alongside Thiago.
This weekend could be the first time we see this Liverpool lineup as Thiago should be fit for the visit from West Ham United whilst Jota has done more than enough to warrant keeping his place in the side.
Given that we’re without Virgil van Dijk for the rest of the season we’re going to have to outscore sides, starting with Jota, Firmino, Mane, Salah and Thiago is a surefire way to do just that.
