Harvey Elliott loan

Liverpool loaned Harvey Elliott out to Blackburn Rovers on deadline day.

The decision was taken after the Reds were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Arsenal on penalties at the start of the month.

The move was also influenced by the fact that Xherdan Shaqiri has stuck around after having been touted for the exit door.

Given that there was no cup competition to impress in and there was the Swiss international ahead of him in the pecking order – Liverpool decided the best move was to loan Harvey Elliott out in order to ensure that he got regular first team football.

Tony Mowbray on Harvey Elliott

Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has raved about Harvey Elliott after the 17-year-olds strong start to live at Ewood Park.

Elliott bagged a goal and an assist against Coventry City at the weekend, prompting high praise from the Rovers gaffer:

“He’s a wonderful personality for such a young boy.

“He’s just a diamond of a football player, I can see why he made his league debut at 15. He is so tight with the ball, so aware of space, of runners.

“He sees all the pitctures – we work really hard with our players to get them to see the pictures but we don’t have to do much work with Harvey…

“This kid is a really really good football player and we’re delighted to have him.”

What RTK has to say

Liverpool loaning out Harvey Elliott could prove a masterstroke down the line.

The youngster is just too good to be playing academy football, it makes sense that he was loaned out instead.

Fingers crossed he continues to impress and Tony Mowbray continues to get the best out of him.
