Jurgen Klopp clearly believes the door is open for Thiago to face Ajax this week. It was previously reported that the Spaniard wouldn’t travel.
The Liverpool boss sounded encouraging on Monday as he discussed Thiago’s injury. The 29-year-old was on the wrong end of a terrible tackle from Richarlison against Everton that earned the Brazilian a red card.
But it sounds as though the door is open for Thiago to play against Ajax this week.
“So, yes, [Thiago] got a knock, a proper knock,” said Jurgen Klopp, per Liverpoolfc.com. “All the rest, we have to see. It’s not even close to being as serious [as Virgil van Dijk]. But will he be ready for Wednesday? I don’t know yet. We will see.”
Now, that might not sound like the most encouraging message in the world but it’s a positive update on last night. The Liverpool Echo said just yesterday that while the Spaniard’s injury wasn’t too serious, he definitely wouldn’t travel for the Champions League clash.

But it appears that Thiago might just face Ajax after all.
What RTK has to say
And Liverpool will need him. Van Dijk certainly won’t be there and the Reds will want all of their senior and most experienced players on deck.
It goes a little beyond that, though. Ajax are a fantastic ball-playing side – Thiago offers a wonderful counter to them. He can keep the ball and control a midfield, which may be the best way to shut Ajax down.
On top of that, keeping possession will be the easiest method of tightening up the defence. Liverpool will want as few attacks against them as possible while they settle into a post-Van Dijk season.
Thiago, then, could prove vital.
