The Liverpool academy is absolutely brimming with talent. The Reds have brought in prodigies from far and wide over the past few years in order to assemble the team of tomorrow. The thinking is that enough of these starlets will make the grade and will save us money in the long term. One of our brightest prospects is a local lad – Layton Stewart bagged another brace this weekend, he should step up a level.
Layton Stewart bags brace
The Liverpool U18s continued their strong start to the season with a 3-2 win over Sunderland this weekend.
Layton Stewart once again stole the show with another brace for Marc Bridge Wilkinson’s side.
The Scouser bagged two with youngster Ennis bagging the third on his debut at U18s level.
The score line somewhat flattered the visitors with the hosts dominant throughout, Sunderland’s first goal being a fluke deflection.
Layton Stewart to step up?
Layton Stewart has showed so far this season that he could do with playing at a more challenging level.
The 18-year-old has scored two hat-tricks and one brace in four U18s Premier League games this season.
His hat-trick against Stoke City was utterly superlative, showcasing every type of goal as he rolled defenders, chased down loose balls and curled one into the top corner.
He has been compared to Fernando Torres recently due to his instinctive ability and frightening turn of pace.
The club could risk stalling his development if they keep him at U18s level for too long, he has done more than enough so far to show that he is ready for the U23s side.
