Liverpool have made some clever moves in the transfer market in recent seasons. Michael Edwards has masterminded the assembly of one of the best value for money squads in world football, a squad that has been crowned champions of everything with a minimal net spend. One misstep in the market may have been the failure to recruit a new backup keeper. Paul Robinson has urged Liverpool to sign Danijel Subasic to replace Adrian.
Adrian signed for the Reds last summer to act as deputy to Alisson Becker. The Spaniard was something of a means to an end, he was available and we needed to hurry through the signing of a new backup on the cheap following the departure of Simon Mignolet.
He impressed at the start of the campaign when he was thrust into the action with Alisson injured, the number two boasted a 100% win record in the Premier League with Liverpool.
His next spells in goal haven’t been as successful. Adrian’s blunders saw us eliminated from the FA Cup and Champions League. Most recently he set the tone for a humiliating night when he gifted Aston Villa an opening goal just minutes into the game.
Liverpool backed to sign Subasic
Speaking to Football Insider, Paul Robinson has urged Liverpool to sign Danijel Subasic.
The Croatian World Cup finalist is available on a free having left Monaco at the end of his contract, Robinson said:
“Subasic is an outstanding goalkeeper. A top goalkeeper that did brilliantly for Croatia in the World Cup. I am very surprised that he is still a free agent. I thought somebody would have snapped him up by now.
“Adrian is out of form and his confidence looks shot to pieces. If Alisson is going to be out for six weeks, Subasic would be an outstanding signing for them.
What RTK has to say
It would be uncharacteristically reactionary of Liverpool to sign Danijel Subasic – even though he’s an experienced player and a World Cup finalist.
The Reds backup keeper has made some mistakes, sure. Signing a new goalkeeper this late in the window would be an extreme reaction.
We’re not even entirely sure that the Reds could sign the keeper. The current transfer window deadlines are confusing as anything, all of our googling was no help at all.
We should replace Adrian at some point, just not now as a knee jerk reaction.
