Ousmane Dembele is available in January for a cut-price fee, according to reports. Jurgen Klopp supposedly wants the player at Liverpool.
This comes from Sport. They claim that Barcelona want to offload Ousmane Dembele in January, two-and-a-half years after buying him for £95m.
They say that the player did not want to leave in the transfer window just gone. But now the club will sit down with Dembele and let him know that they’ll put him on the market if he doesn’t agree a new deal.
Barcelona hope the get around £45m for the player – a drop of over half his value. But Dembele has not lived up to expectations and Ansu Fati has taken his spot.
Thus if Barcelona can move him on, they’d like to. Then they can use the money for someone like Memphis Depay.
What RTK has to say
An interesting one. As Sport have said themselves, Jurgen Klopp reportedly wanted Dembele on loan this year. That’s something Fabrizio Romano has claimed, too, and you can read our thoughts on that here.
So there are some things to consider here. One, Dembele will still be just 23 in January. He’s a player with massive potential and has enough time to fulfil it.
And at £45m, he’s a bargain. A player of his talent and age would usually command a far larger fee than that. It’s under half his original value, for one.
But on top of all that, Liverpool still don’t have a player to ‘replace’ Mohamed Salah. Diogo Jota is the clear heir to Sadio Mane on the left, but there is no equivalent on the right. Dembele, at the same age as Jota, would be that player.
And for £45m, it’s a deal that seems too good to pass up. His injury history draws concern, of course, but if Liverpool feel at all confident about it, we could see this one gathering pace.
