Liverpool have made some smart buys in recent seasons. The Reds have brought in Virgil van Dijk to settle the defence, Alisson Becker to transform our clean sheet record and Thiago Alcantara, just to take the right royal. We may have made another smart purchase this summer with some Liverpool fans buzzing about Marcelo Pitaluga.
Who is Marcelo Pitaluga?
Signed from Fluminense in Brazil, Marcelo Pitaluga was the side’s fourth choice goalkeeper.
He had appeared on the bench in two senior games in Brazil and has been playing for the reserves since the age of 16.
After receiving glowing reports from Fluminense’s first choice goalkeeper – Alisson Becker’s brother, Muriel – along with strong scout reports, the Liverpool moved to sign Pitaluga this summer.
Liverpool sign Pitaluga
Liverpool seemed to have completed the signing of Marcelo Pitaluga weeks ago.
James Pearce confirmed that the Reds would sign the youngster for an initial fee of £700k back in September.
The youngster has since been pictured in training on Merseyside but his announcement was only made today.
Liverpool have confirmed that he will be training with the first team but playing for the academy.
Kopites are excited by the signing to say the very least.
Liverpool fans react to Pitaluga move

A couple of Brazilians chipped in with some context, his move sparked riots in Brazil apparently.
Him leaving created riots in the favelas around Fluminense when he left the club !! I’m reckoning he’ll be a good bet as long as Becker takes him in and nurtures him.

He’s a future Brazil star according to one Tweeter.
He is a great and promising goalkeeper. Fluminense would sell for much more if he had stayed with him until playing professional. It has potential for the Brazilian team. Liverpool made a major acquisition.
