Liverpool have had a solid transfer window. The Reds went out and bought a backup left back, a promising young forward and an elite midfielder. Michael Edwards also moved on some youngsters to help balance the books. One man who was tipped for an exit but ended up staying has opened up about the non-move, Xherdan Shaqiri has said he chose to stay.
Little Big Jed Shaqiri
Small, stocky, strong and technically gifted, Xherdan Shaqiri is an incredibly talented footballer.
The Swiss international joined the Reds from Stoke City in 2018 after the Reds triggered his £13m release clause.
Since arriving on Merseyside the the creative man has struggled with injuries and has struggled for minutes as a result.
He has consistently impressed when afforded opportunities on the pitch.
However, due to his lack of game time he was tipped for an exit this summer.
Shaqiri decided to stay
In comments recently reported by Swiss outlet Thuner Tagblatt, Xherdan Shaqiri expressed that he decided to remain at Anfield:
“The media write a lot, but in the end I’m with Liverpool. I have a long-term contract, and I really feel good. I have decided to stay with Liverpool. In football, there is always speculation.
“I think the national team comes at a good time to be able to play again and then attack again when I go back to Liverpool.”
What RTK has to say
Fingers crossed he does come back to attack at Liverpool.
He typically impresses when he gets into the side, the only issue is that he is too often injured to sustain a claim for a place.
He netted a worldie of a free kick against Lincoln City and turned up in the Derby last year – we just need to see it more often.
Fingers crossed he delivers on his promise, if he did indeed opt to stay as opposed to being forced to due to a lack of offers then we’ll be expecting him to show us why he made the decision.
