Major blow for Liverpool with Alisson to miss Manchester City trip

Liverpool have established themselves as one of the greatest teams in the world thanks to a remarkable consistency. This consistency relies on a consistency in team selection – Jürgen Klopp regularly fields the same starting XI each week, as long as they’re fit. As a result it is a huge blow that Alisson is likely to miss the trip to Manchester City.

Alisson injured

This weekend Kopites hearts were broken when they learned that Alisson Becker was injured an unavailable to face Aston Villa.

Adrian San Miguel filled in with disastrous consequences. The Spaniard let the side down to an incredible extent. His early error gifted the hosts the lead and the defence’s confidence looked shot from then on.

Jürgen Klopp told Sky Sports before the game that Ali would be out for an extended period, saying:

“Four weeks is possible, six weeks is more likely.”

Games he’ll miss

The first game that the Brazilian missed saw us lose 7-2 at Aston Villa.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

The next game that the superstar will be absent for is the Merseyside Derby, the Reds making the short trip across the park to take on the league leaders.

Ali will also be absent for a trip to Ajax, a visit from Sheffield United and an Anfield tie with FC Midtjylland.

The shot stopper will also be unavailable for ties with West Ham, Manchester City and Atalanta.

Disaster run

For the Brazilian to miss three Champions League ties, a Merseyside derby and a trip to City is an absolute disaster.

The Reds need to come out of the games with Everton and City without defeat if they are to maintain a title challenge.

Defeat in either of these games could see us falling behind early on in the season, we have become used to leading the pack not chasing it.

Fingers crossed Adrian gets his head screwed on in the next 4-6 weeks.
