Jadon Sancho 2021 is officially on. The player is staying at Borussia Dortmund and that surely opens the door for Liverpool.
Jadon Sancho may well be up for grabs in 2021. The Englishman could have moved away from Borussia Dortmund this summer but he remains there. And that’s great news.
For one, it seemed that he was going to Manchester United. But as the Guardian said on Sunday, United can’t find a way past Dortmund’s £108m asking price.
And so the Sancho pursuit moves on to 2021.
The timing was wrong for Liverpool to move for Sancho. He’ll want a starting berth but Liverpool can’t offer that – they’ve got Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah on the wings, after all.
But next year is the year that Liverpool need to consider moving one of them on. Their front three, including Roberto Firmino, will all be 29. There aren’t many years left in them at the elite level and the next generation needs considering.
Sancho fits the profile to perfection. He’s a pacy winger who looks to both score and assist goals – that’s literally what Liverpool base their team around.
So if Sancho is available in the summer of 2012, Liverpool simply have to move. He’s too perfect a fit at too perfect a time. It’s an opportunity they can’t afford to miss.
We’d even go as far to say that they should prioritise him over Kylian Mbappe if that move is at all possible. Mbappe, although a better player, plays primarily as a central striker these days. Liverpool would need to rewire their attack as he’s nothing like Firmino.
But Sancho would fit right in. As Klopp said back in July, he’d certainly look good in Red.
