'Should not happen'; How Jurgen Klopp reacted to Liverpool's 7-2 defeat

Here’s how Jurgen Klopp reacted to Liverpool’s 7-2 drubbing at the hands of Aston Villa on Sunday.

How should a manager react to losing a game 7-2? How should the manager of the champions react to losing a game 7-2? Well, now we know as Jurgen Klopp gave his reaction after Liverpool suffered a 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa.

“Is it a one-off? I would like to think so but the proof of that will be in the next couple of weeks or months. A game like that should not happen, 100%,” he said after the game, per the Liverpool Echo.

“I don’t think I lost that high. It is not a personal defeat but it is a massive one.

“It is important how we react. The only problem is we cannot react tomorrow. These boys are very self-critical and they know everyone has his hand in this result. We have to deal with it and we will deal with it.”

What RTK has to say

This is the right attitude. You can’t pretend that it’s a normal result, and he hasn’t, but you also can’t just outright ignore it.

But saying it shouldn’t happen, Klopp has made it clear how unacceptable the 7-2 was. Liverpool cannot come up with excuses but they can’t treat it like a normal defeat, either.

This was something that just simply should not happen.

But Klopp has also made sure that Liverpool don’t just write it off as a freak result. They have to prove that this is a freak result by showing up and looking like the champions again.

That chance comes in two weeks against Everton – possibly the best opponents Liverpool could ask for. Because this is a good Everton side. Beat them with comfort and this 7-2 isn’t an important result.

But as Klopp says, it’s up to the team to do that. They can’t take it for granted.
