Liverpool’s reported transfer stance will be music to the ears of Caoimhín Kelleher. The young goalkeeper may just get his chance.

Liverpool won’t move for a new goalkeeper, according to the Liverpool Echo. Adrian’s error and overall poor performance against Aston Villa appears to have asked a question but the Reds will stick with what they’ve got.

And that should be great news for Caoimhín Kelleher. The 21-year-old is currently Liverpool’s third choice between the sticks and he sat on the bench against Villa.

Opportunity knocks

Signing a new goalkeeper would have pushed Kelleher down to fourth-choice. At that stage, it’s difficult to see him getting a game anytime soon.

But he may just get one soon. Alisson is likely out for a little while, meaning Kelleher will at least be on the bench going forward. And if Adrian doesn’t perform, the next opportunity falls to him.

This is pretty much the only way Kelleher can get a proper chance at Liverpool. An injury to Alisson gets him in the squad, then poor performances from Adrian turn Jurgen Klopp’s head.

There’s the situation where both Alisson and Adrian are injured, of course, but that’s hardly a likely one. This is the real chance, where Kelleher can take a chance to jump ahead in the queue on his ability.

And if Adrian does have a poor game against Everton, Klopp will surely consider Kelleher for the next one. Assuming Alisson is still out, of course.

But even then, Klopp may well decide that Kelleher deserves the next chance whenever that is.

That couldn’t possibly have happened if Liverpool signed a goalkeeper. Instead, their young Irish ‘keeper could find an opportunity to make it at Anfield.
