Liverpool have developed a pretty clear strategy in the transfer market in recent seasons. The Reds have opted for buying players with a focus on value for money – often snapping up players on the cheap and turning them into superstars, Andy Robertson is a case in point. Another example of this strategy is tipped to take on a bigger role this season, Pep Lijnders has been drooling over Takumi Minamino this week.
Minamino at Liverpool
Liverpool signed Takumi Minamino from RB Salzburg in January of this year.
The 22 cap Japan international impressed for the Austrian side when they took on the Reds in the Champions League.
Taki netted at Anfield in a 4-3 thriller in the group stage and was signed up just a few weeks after the return leg in Austria.
We saw him grab his first competitive goal for the club in the Community Shield in the summer before netting a brace against Lincoln City in the EFL Cup.
Lijnders on Minamino
Pep Lijnders was full of praise for Takumi Minamino this week. The Dutchman hyped up the Japanese forward at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Reds’ cup tie with Arsenal:
“Wow – what a desire! He is somebody who turns our game collective as well, the same as what Roberto [Firmino] does. His development has been outstanding – he always give everything, each day.
“He’s already good so it becomes really interesting to see if he can keep up [his development].”
What RTK has to say
Kopites are more than excited to see what Taki will bring to the side this season.
He was held back for the most part after joining in January last term. we are starting to see more of him now and we have seen has been impressive.
The forward is expected to be filling in for Roberto Firmino in the false nine role, he did a good job of it against Arsenal in the Community Shield so we’ll be hoping that he repeats the trick in the EFL Cup this week.
