Liverpool take on Arsenal in the EFL Cup this week just days after easing past them in the Premier League. The Reds will be firm favourites for the clash, a replay of last year’s fourth round tie at Anfield. Liverpool will take on Arsenal with four stars injured for the tie.
Liverpool v Arsenal
Last season this tie produced one of our most memorable Anfield nights of the last decade.
The Reds hosted the Gunners and the two sides played out a 5-5 draw in normal time with outstanding goals from both sides.
Curtis Jones scored the decisive spot kick as the hosts won the tie on penalties.
This week the tie was played out in the Premier League with Jürgen Klopp’s men easing to a 3-1 victory, putting in a magnificent display.
Liverpool injury blow ahead of Arsenal
Pep Lijnders gave a Liverpool injury update ahead of the Arsenal game, speaking at his pre-match press conference he told us that Kostas Tsimikas, Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all missing for the tie.
Tsimikas picked up a thigh problem in last week’s tie against Lincoln City.
Jordan Henderson is still suffering from the problem which forced him off against Chelsea.
Joel Matip remains out with a muscular problem, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is recovering well from a knee injury but isn’t available yet.
What RTK has to say
Kostas Tsimikas is perhaps the biggest miss for this tie.
The Greek international was expected to be a star of the cup side this term, having been brought in to provide back up for Andy Robertson.
The rest of the absentees were not expected to be involved, barring perhaps a fit Joel Matip.
The Reds will instead likely call upon James Milner or Yasser Larouci to fill in at left back.
