Liverpool could virtually cover the cost of signing Thiago by selling Harry Wilson. Recent reports suggest the Welshman is leaving the club.
Sky Sports are one of many outlets claiming that Burnley are negotiating for Wilson. They expect the player to leave Liverpool for around £15m – a substantial fee.
Or, at least, it looks substantial after Liverpool’s recent dealings.
A few months ago, it looked like Liverpool would get more. The Express claimed in March that Liverpool wanted £30m for Wilson, although, that was before the economy tanked.
Instead, it appears they’ll settle for half of that. But after last Friday, it looks like a fantastic deal.
In and out
Liverpool confirmed Thiago on a whirlwind Friday. They finally brought the Spaniard in from Bayern Munich and pulled it off for a remarkable price – £20m.
It means that selling Wilson for £15m comes close to covering Thiago’s fee. If you’d said Liverpool could swap £5m and Wilson for Thiago, you’d have laughed a year ago.
And yet, here we are. Liverpool are set to move on a player who has never played a Premier League game for them for just £5m less than they signed one of the world’s best midfielders.
That, no matter what way you look at it, is fantastic business.
Becuase Liverpool are upgrading from a fringe player who spent last season with Bournemouth to someone who has one 11 league titles out of 12 in his career. A reigning European Champion, too, and a key part in that victory for Bayern.
Yes, it would have been nice to get the full £20m for Wilson – or even £30m. But after signing Thiago for just £20m, Liverpool are still pulling off incredible business.
