Liverpool have had a massive week. The Reds went brought in two big signings and brushed aside supposed title contenders, all in the space of three days. It was a great time to be a Kopite. Now that the dust has settled, Nuno Espirito Santo has opened up on Liverpool signing Diogo Jota from Wolves.

Oh Jota week

Liverpool had told us all summer that there was no money in the pot. The powers that be cautioned us against getting excited, against getting our hopes up.

There were links with all and sundry as the Reds looked set to head into their title defence without any significant reinforcements.

Then FSG signed Thiago from Bayern Munich, ending a protracted saga which had seen the Reds linked for months on end.

A day later Liverpool brought in Diogo Jota from Wolves, catching everyone off guard as we hadn’t been linked with him at all. The forward cost the Reds a reported £41m.

Espirito Santo on Liverpool signing Jota

Diogo Jota spent three seasons at Wolves, scoring 44 goals across 131 appearances.

It was a surprising goodbye for the Midlands side to say. Speaking to the press ahead of their game with Manchester City, gaffer Nuno Espirito Santo commented on Liverpool signing Jota:

“Diogo is amazing and everybody knows the relationship we built. What Diogo did for us is absolutely fantastic.”

“I think things happen when naturally things should happen and I think Diogo is going to the right place.

“We wish him all the best, knowing that he will never be forgotten by our fans.”

What RTK has to say

Liverpool fans will be pleased to hear Nuno says that Anfield is the right place for Jota.

He is a superstar in the making, just 23-years-old he is full of potential and he is also full of running.

Liverpool is the right place for Jota because of these characteristics, not only does he have room to grow but he also has the determination to do so and to close down opponents when out of possession.

Hopefully we’ll see him make his debut against Lincoln City this week.
