Liverpool have actually gone and done it. After telling us all summer that the Reds were skint. After convincing us that big signings were unlikely. The Reds have only gone and done it. Liverpool have signed Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich. Pep Guardiola has reacted to the news ahead of his side’s opening fixture against Wolves.

Liverpool sign Thiago
It was the saga of the summer for Kopites.
Months ago reports emerged claiming that Thiago had told Bayern Munich that he didn’t want to sign a new contract as he entered the final year of his deal.
This opened the door for the Reds to bring the Spaniard in on a cut price deal, and bring him in on a cut price deal they did.
Liverpool signed Thiago for just £20m with £5m in bonuses, paying the fee off throughout the duration of the player’s contract.
Guardiola on Liverpool and Thiago
When Pep Guardiola arrived at Bayern Munich he famously proclaimed that it was “Thiago or nothing”, emphatic in his demand to sign the playmaker.
The midfielder did arrive at the Allianz and he went on to win seven league titles, a Champions League and a score of domestic cups in Bavaria.
Speaking to the press ahead of his side’s opening fixture with Wolves, Pep Guardiola reacted to Liverpool signing Thiago:
“I am happy that Thiago comes to England because England is going to enjoy a really good player. Phil can play in that position, striker as well and wingers.
“No doubt of this, a player who played for Barcelona and Bayern Munich can play in the Premier League. Yeah, of course he can play.”
What RTK has to say
I bet he’s fuming.
The Manchester City manager is a huge admirer of Thiago, to see him join his side’s closest rivals must be a real kick in the teeth for Guardiola.
Given how far behind the Reds he finished last season, Pep must be a tad concerned that they have just strengthened with one of the best players in the world.
Yeah, sure you’re happy mate.
