Takumi Minamino has surely earned himself some minutes for Liverpool after scoring yet again in a friendly against Huddersfield Town.
Liverpool faced off against Huddersfield Town’s B side on Monday. It was a surprise friendly behind closed doors as the Reds handed run-outs to squad players.
The likes of Adrian, Joel Matip, Xherdan Shaqiri, James Milner and Divock Origi joined Minamino for the game against Huddersfield. Now, we don’t know much about it all, of course. But we can guess from the line-up that Jurgen Klopp wanted to give minutes to players who didn’t properly feature against Leeds United.
And we also know the score – 1-1. Minamino got Liverpool’s goal, putting them into a lead before half-time. That goal could be enough to earn him a serious opportunity against Chelsea, too.
Minamino has now scored in his last three games for Liverpool, even if two were friendlies. The 25-year-old keeps finding the back of the net and, surely, that’s worth something for Sunday.
Liverpool will face Chelsea in what could end up being the biggest game of the season. Players who are in-form and firing are of vital importance, then, especially after the Reds’ game v Leeds.
Not too many players shone last Saturday. Mohamed Salah did, of course, but most of the rest looked quite sluggish and slow. There were too many mistakes and it looks as though the short pre-season may affect players. We got the same impression against Arsenal, after all.
But if Minamino is scoring goals, then he deserves minutes. Maybe they’re just half an hour off the bench but that’s all he got in the Community Shield and it was enough time to change the game.
So when Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge this weekend, we hope Minamino is a part of the plan. He could end up being a dangerous weapon at a time when others are still getting up to speed.
