A frustrating opening day for the Champions saw the Reds go ahead three times at Anfield, only to surrender the lead three times. It was certainly a performance of a side still getting back into their rhythm but the Reds finally got there in the end, running out 4-3 winners. Here are our Liverpool player ratings v Leeds United:

Alisson Becker – 6
The Brazilian couldn’t have done much about the goals, however, conceding three is never a great start to the season.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 5
The Scouser in our team didn’t have his finest game but having not had a full pre-season we can forgive him.
Joe Gomez – 5
The Englishman was often caught out of position and out of the line, not a day to remember for JoGo.
Virgil van Dijk – 6
Virgil van Dijk made an uncharacteristic error in the first half but atoned with a goal, no questions at this time please.
Andy Robertson – 6
Andy Robbo had a solid enough game.
Jordan Henderson – 5.5
The skipper played, that’s about as much as we can say.
Gini Wijnaldum – 6
Tenacious, determined, dogged. It was a typical Gini Wijnaldum display in the middle.
Naby Keita – 6
The Guinean midfielder didn’t do enough, he’ll still have a top season though.
Mo Salah – 18
A hattrick for the Egyptian King in a game which he dominated, always looking alive.
Sadio Mane – 6.5
Sadio was, as ever, always trying things. Not enough came off.
Bobby Firmino – 5
Bobby Firmino, like Sadio, was, as ever, always trying things. Not enough came off. He missed a sitter towards the end.
