Gini Wijnaldum set for 'crucial talks' with Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool

This summer we haven’t seen Liverpool do much business in the transfer market. The Reds have only sold one first team player and brought one in. With the season starting on Saturday we can expect that the club will be looking to get any further business wrapped up soon. According to Sky Sports, Gini Wijnaldum is set for ‘crucial talks’ with Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool this week.

Barcelona want Wijnaldum

According to numerous sources, including Sky Sports, Barcelona are chasing Gini Wijnaldum.

The Blaugrana recently appointed Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman as their new gaffer with the club legend resigning from international duties.

The coach has reportedly made signing Gini Wijnaldum a ‘priority‘ as he looks to pair the midfielder with Frenkie de Jong at club level.

According to Sky Sports, Gini Wijnaldum is set to have ‘crucial talks’ with Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool this week.

The pair are likely to discuss whether or not the Dutchman will be extending his contract and if not whether or not he will be joining Barcelona and Ronald Koeman.

Given that the Dutchman is entering the final year of his deal at Anfield the club will have to decide if they want to give him a new contract or risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Thiago implications

The outcome of these ‘crucial talks’ could decide whether or not Liverpool sign Thiago Alcantara.

The Reds will need to clear space in the midfield and raise funds if they are to sign the Spanish playmaker.

If these ‘crucial talks’ result in Wijnaldum’s departure then we can assume that the Reds will be making a move for Thiago.

If these ‘crucial talks’ end up with Gini extending his contract then it would likely take the sale of Marko Grujic to see the Spaniard signing for Liverpool.
