Liverpool have been characteristically coy this summer. The Reds have been quiet and efficient whilst the rest of the Premier League chucks its cash around. Manchester City, Chelsea and Leeds United have been spending big, whereas the Reds have simply sold a centre back and used the cash to buy a backup full back. We could be set for more departures with rumours of an imminent Barcelona approach for Gini Wijnaldum – some Kopites are gutted at the prospect of losing him.
Budget buy dynamo
Liverpool bought Gini Wijnaldum from a relegated Newcastle United side for a bargain fee of £25m.
The Dutchman arrived at the club as a goal getting attacking midfielder but was quickly transformed into a dynamo in the middle of the park, covering every blade of grass and ensuring the Reds recover and keep possession.
He has been a big game hero, netting twice in the comeback against Barcelona, and he has been a model professional with his relentless attitude. He has been a fan favourite.
Barcelona interest in Wijnaldum
Sport in Spain has reported that a Barcelona approach for Wijnaldum is now ‘taking shape’ after Ronald Koeman made the signing a ‘non-negotiable priority’.
The Dutch coach has previously managed Gini at international level and was impressed with the chemistry shown between Wijnaldum and Frenkie de Jong.
Koeman is keen to reunite the two at the Camp Nou as he imposes another Dutch revolution in Catalonia.
Kopites react to reports
Some Liverpool fans are terrified of the prospect of losing Gini.
Would be the biggest loss to the team since Gerrard and Sterling left in 2015. Really hoping it doesn’t happen

Others won’t mind as long as we bring in Thiago.
Been a great servant to the club. Good luck to him. Time for us to sort this Thiago deal though now it’s just gone on too long.

Whilst some want us to keep Wijnaldum and sign Thiago.
Yea he’s going it seems
Thiago is a better player but big clubs just keep both
If gini goes we absolutely have to sign a CB

One Kopite wasn’t feeling sentimental at all.
Get him out of this club, i love him, i respect what he did for us, he was a beast, but seems like not anymore. Times changes, if somebody not good enough we should sell him.

We may have a standoff on our hands.

But not unless the Spanish side cough up some serious cash, or a player…
Maybe add 10 million to that plus coutinho 😂
