Liverpool have been efficient with their transfer business so far this summer. The Reds have offloaded Dejan Lovren for a decent fee and brought in backup left back Kostas Tsimikas without any fuss. There is still moves to be made with Lovren needing replacing, we expect another centre back to arrive before the new season. Liverpool should look at signing Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic, he’d be the ideal Jürgen Klopp signing, here’s three reasons why:

Why Liverpool need Ajer

After six years of service at Anfield we said goodbye to Dejan Lovren this summer as he headed to Russia to play for Zenit.

The Croatian had been the club’s fourth choice centre back, leaving the Reds now in need of a new backup defender.

Given that the fourth choice isn’t expected to play too often in the league we expect the club to move for a young defender with potential to grow in Virgil van Dijk’s shadow – Liverpool should turn to Kristoffer Ajer of Celtic.

Young and experienced

At just 22-years-old Kristoffer Ajer already has 129 first team appearances at Celtic.

The towering centre back has been a mainstay in the Glasgow side’s defence in recent seasons, enjoying great success.

Not only has he great experience on the field but he has experience of winning trophies, he’s won three league titles at the club along with a collection of domestic cups.

Versatility is vital

Ajer not only boasts an impressive amount of experience but he is also a versatile footballer.

The Norwegian can play on either side of the centre of defence as well as at right back or in defensive midfield.

Jürgen Klopp values versatility highly, we have seen this in James Milner and Fabinho in recent years.

Lifelong Kopite

Liverpool should pursue Kristoffer Ajer because he would give everything to the club, he is a lifelong Kopite.

The youngster previously admitted his love for the Reds, saying:

“[My dream] is to walk out on Liverpool’s home ground, Anfield, and hear the supporters singing You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Passion makes the difference when it comes down to it, it can mean that extra yard when your legs are dead.

Combine the love for the club with the motivation of Jürgen Klopp and Ajer could develop into an extraordinary player.
