Liverpool’s academy must’ve been working overtime in the last few years. The Reds have historically produced some outstanding talents – see the legendary Steven Gerrard and the Ballon d’Or winning Michael Owen – but top class academy stars have been sparse in the past decade. However, the last 18 months has seen the emergence of some exciting talents, each of which has now been rewarded for their progress. Kopites have been rejoicing at news that Neco Williams has signed a new long term contract with the club.

Breakthrough season

Neco Williams was a leading light of the Reds’ cup campaigns last season. The Welshman was a regular fixture at right back in the League Cup and FA Cup.

So impressive were the teenagers performances he earned himself a place in the FA Cup Team of the Season.

Following a strong showing in the cups the youngster was given some game time in the league, making six Premier League appearances by the end of the season.

Neco Williams new contract

As reward for his almighty progress in the last year Neco Williams has been handed a new five year contract at Anfield.

The deal will keep the teenager at the club until 2025 and is a massive show of faith in the prodigy, particularly given that he is only two years younger than the man ahead of him in the pecking order.

Surely we will see even more of the promising full back now that he is tied to the club for the foreseeable future.

Kopites react to new deal

One supporter pointed out that whilst fans are getting uppity about wanting new signings this new deal is a prime example of why we should trust the club’s assessment of the youth.

The sky’s the limit for such a talented youngster.

He’s even being tipped for great responsibilities.

Fans are excited to see him grow in his role on the right hand side.

He’s even being tipped to challenge the great Trent Alexander-Arnold in the future.

Even West Ham fans were wading in to praise him, perhaps a bit too generously…
