Jürgen Klopp is going to go down as one of the finest, if not the finest manager of his generation. The German giant has pioneered the gegenpressing style, leading sides to league titles in Germany and England as well as European success. Speaking to ESPN, Bundesliga legend Robert Lewandowski praised Klopp and named him as his favourite boss.
Robert Lewandowski owes Jürgen Klopp a lot. It was R Jürgen who first brought Lewandowski to the Bundesliga, signing the Polish striker from Lech Poznan in 2010.
The pair enjoyed four years together at Dortmund before the striker left for rivals Bayern Munich, joining the German giants on a free transfer in 2014.
In the years since he joined Bayern, Lewandowski has established himself as one of the world’s finest strikers, often amazing with his movement and finishing ability.
Lewandowski praises Klopp
Speaking to ESPN, Robert Lewandowski was full of praise for Jürgen Klopp. The Polish icon told the outlet:
“I think Jurgen Klopp [is my favourite] and after that Pep Guardiola. 100 percent.
“[Klopp] has two faces. You can see that he is kind of like a father, but the second part is like a coach, a manager.
“For [players], he is a huge motivation. He makes this perfect, because he knows where there is this line where he can [push you] more or a little bit less. His performance as a coach is amazing, but not only as a coach but also as a man.”
What RTK has to say
First of all it is always nice to hear Klopp being preferred over Guardiola. Of course, I admire and respect the Spaniard but I will die on the hill that he is a chequebook manager first and foremost and he wouldn’t have won a fraction of his honours without the billions he has spent.
The fact that Lewandowski described Klopp as a father figure is important and this comment says a lot about why Klopp and Liverpool work so well together.
Although it may sound like a cliche Liverpool is definitely a family, it is a club where the supporters feel a real connection to the players and the staff, we demand that they feel it all as deeply as we do.
The fact that Klopp is such a fatherly, family figure is a major reason why he has been such a hit with the fans, he has always felt like one of us.
