It is a hard pill to swallow but one of the very best managers to ever live managed Manchester United, as such the LMA Manager of the Year trophy is named after him. This week the Sir Alex Ferguson trophy was handed to Jürgen Klopp in honour of the German’s record breaking achievements this season. Fergie was kind enough to film a congratulatory message for the Reds boss, Twitter has erupted after Sir Alex Ferguson forgave Klopp for calling him at 3:30am to tell him he’d won the league.

An almighty achievement

Before this season Liverpool hadn’t won the title in 30 years, this year they won it in style. Klopp guided the Reds to their first title in decades and did so in a fashion nobody thought possible after the disappointment of last season.

Although the Reds failed to break the 100 point marker it can be argued that they would have done so with ease had their unstoppable momentum not been interrupted by the pause in the season.

As such the LMA honour was only ever heading to one man this year.

I’ll forgive you

Speaking in his congratulation video Sir Alex Ferguson was full of praise for Jürgen Klopp, saying:

“The performance level of your team was outstanding. Your personality runs right through the whole club.”

The Scotsman did comment on the fact that Anfield boss woke him up to tell him he won the league:

“I’ll forgive you for ringing me at half past three in the morning to tell me you had won the league – thank you!”

Fans erupt

Fans from both sides of the aisle were in stitches at the story, in fairness it is a funny image to have in your head.

Even United fans were appreciative of the German’s charm.

And in turn Liverpool fans were respectful of the great Sir Alex.

Even if he did get a sly dig in there.

The story does just sum up how gigantic Sir Alex is in the game.

But after all, it was just a great shout from R Jürgen.
