Jurgen Klopp wants Thiago at Liverpool next season, according to reports. That’s despite some at Anfield objecting to the signing.
This comes from Bild, who believe Klopp is very high on the player. He wants Thiago at Anfield and he wants him there for next season, they say.
But there are some stumbling blocks, of course. Firstly, there’s the price. Liverpool want to pay around £18m for Thiago but Bayern Munich want twice that.
In a time of economic uncertainty, that’s quite the difference. But then there’s another, bigger problem – some at Anfield don’t want to sign Thiago and object to the idea.
Why? Because he’s too old and there’s little-to-no resale value. Both fair arguments, given that Thiago is now 29 and has a history of injury problems.
What RTK has to say
This one has gone on for a little while now. Do we think Thiago will join? It’s hard to say but we’d lean towards no – although, this report is quite encouraging.
It’s a decent source that makes quite a specific claim. This isn’t just ‘Klopp likes Thiago’ but that Klopp is actively making moves to bring the player to Anfield.
Thiago would, of course, be a very notable signing and we think a very good one. But the economic climate makes it incredibly difficult to predict what kind of moves Liverpool will make this summer.
Even if this report is 100% accurate, we still wouldn’t back the club to push the deal through. Especially if there’s such a difference in valuation.
But if they are open to signing players this summer, we do hope Liverpool bring in Thiago.
