Liverpool are looking to sign Nick Breitenbucher, according to reports. The Hoffenheim teenager earns comparisons to Arjen Robben.
This comes from Spox in Germany, who say that Breitenbucher is in demand. Liverpool aren’t the only ones looking at the winger, with both Chelsea and Schalke 04 wanting to bring him in.
Breitenbucher is a left-footed winger with a penchant for cutting inside – earning him the nickname ‘Robben’ from teammates. He’s a goalscorer, too, having bagged 13 in 16 games before his season ended. Impressive numbers from the wing, then.
At only 5ft4, a teammate labelled Breitenbucher a ‘poison dwarf’ for how lethal he can be. We’ll have to wait and see if that name catches on at senior level…
What RTK has to say
So Breitenbucher could be this year’s Harvey Elliott, should Liverpool win the race. He certainly sounds like a bright talent and the fact that he can consistently score from the wing will naturally interest everyone at Anfield.
Last summer was all about youth signings, of course. Sepp van den Berg and Elliott both arrived while Liverpool didn’t make any first-team additions (other than Adrian after Simon Mignolet left).
We wouldn’t be shocked to see similar this year, either. The economy makes big signings difficult, while Liverpool have a selection of youngsters at the club who they can afford to invest in.
Strengthening the next generation even further certainly makes a lot of sense. Breitenbucher could come in and develop alongside Elliott, perhaps handing Liverpool two talented wingers in the future?
