Lille boss Cristophe Galtier says Victor Osimhen will leave Lille before long. The forward is reportedly a Liverpool target.
“Regarding Victor [Osimhen] and Gabriel, yes, I’ve known for a long time that they’re leaving,” said Galtier, per the Daily Mail. “They’re working hard with us in the meantime. We’re working on the players who are currently here and those likely to replace them.
“Of course, the club is working to replace him [Osimhen].”
This comes about two weeks after Osimhen’s agent told All Nigeria Soccer that Liverpool had made contact. That certainly wasn’t the first link between the two, however.
Le10Sport claimed in April that the Reds wanted Osimhen and that Lille wanted around £70m. Why the price tag? Because the 21-year-old bagged 18 goals before football stopped in France.
Osimhen has become one of the most exciting young strikers in Europe – something that will naturally attract the biggest clubs.
What RTK has to say
The timing doesn’t work here, unfortunately, and we can’t imagine Osimhen will move to Anfield if that £70m figure is even close to accurate.
Liverpool pulled out of a deal for Timo Werner for less, after all. Werner is a more proven player and thus less of a risk. Liverpool still couldn’t justify a large fee, though.
But having missed out on Werner, perhaps the club could move as an alternative? We think it’s unlikely but if financial situations improve considerably, Liverpool would have the money to make such a deal.
You shouldn’t hold your breath on that one, however.
