Borussia Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl has played down rumours of Jadon Sancho heading to Liverpool. The winger could even stay in Germany.
“He is incredibly important,” Kehl told Sky Sports Germany. “We are leaving at the moment continue to assume that he will play and stay for Borussia Dortmund next season.
“Regarding the rumours [about Liverpool], I can say that there is nothing to it.”
Kehl is the current player license department director at Dortmund and, naturally, has an inside track on these things. His words come at a time when speculation around Sancho is rampant.
In fact, the player may be the most in-demand around right now. 20, English and with 20 goals from the wing this season, you can expect Sancho to fetch a very high price if Dortmund do sell.
The Mirror, for instance, believes it could be around £100m.
What RTK has to say
Honestly, we didn’t think there would be anything to this. We haven’t seen any rumours or talk we’d personally trust that suggests Liverpool are moving in on Sancho.
Do we think the Reds are interested? Absolutely – they’d be foolish not to watch this one. But given they recently pulled out of a £50m deal for Timo Werner over finances, they’re highly unlikely to spend £100m on anyone.
When football and its finances carry more certainty, perhaps we’ll see some movement here. We hope so, anyway. Until then, this is just far too high a financial risk for Liverpool to reasonably take.
