Juventus risk an auction with Liverpool over Nicolo Zaniolo, according to reports. Roma may transfer the 20-year-old over the summer.
This comes from Tutto Sport, who do say Roma have a plan to hold onto Zaniolo. Despite that, their ever-growing debt means they may have no choice but to sell their ‘jewel’.
That debt is already significant, too, as Tutto Sport claims Roma are £113m in the red right now. They say that will grow by the end of the month and may well necessitate Zaniolo’s sale.
They’ll only consider offers of over £53m, however, but there are two clubs in the running. Juventus want Zaniolo but are waiting – and in doing so, they risk an auction with Liverpool.
This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve seen Zaniolo and Liverpool linked together. Il Tempo claimed in May that Roma were trying to sell him to Anfield.
Then Transfer Market Web started this month with a link, saying Liverpool were planning their move. Il Sussidiario then said Jurgen Klopp was fronting a move just a few days later.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool pulling out of a move for Timo Werner leaves us doubtful over any significant arrivals in this window. The German was reportedly a priority target and yet the Reds pulled out for financial reasons.
Given his £50m price, paying that for Zaniolo – who has not been named as a priority – seems at odds with the Werner decision.
Things could change by the time the transfer window opens, of course. If Juventus want to wait then that does actually suit Liverpool, who reportedly wanted to wait over Werner.
So like with everything else at the moment, we’ll wait and see. We won’t hold our breath over Zaniolo arriving at Liverpool, though.
