Lyon must look to transfer Houssem Aouar this summer if they’re to complete their own objectives, according to reports. The player is supposedly a priority target for Liverpool.
This comes from ESPN, who details a fairly complicated situation with the player. Lyon must look to transfer Aouar in order to improve their squad this summer, with multiple clubs circling the situation.
Aouar could have left the club last summer, according to the outlet, but decided to stay another year. Now he’s in a far more difficult place, as clubs can’t be sure when it comes to spending money this summer.
And Lyon want £45m for their midfielder – a significant outlay for anyone right now. Manchester City are ‘very interested’, says ESPN, while Chelsea also want the player. Juventus could move, too.
What RTK has to say
The Mirror claimed at the start of May that Liverpool had two priority targets for this summer, though. One was Timo Werner, who looks destined for Chelsea, and the other was Aouar.
Whether they can still afford to move for Aouar is another question, however. The Werner deal reportedly ended because of the finances, leaving it up in the air whether they’d move for the Frenchman.
Aouar younger, though, which makes him a different sort of investment to Werner. That could, in theory, make paying £45m for him a bit more palatable than for 24-year-old Werner.
With Werner, you’re paying for the next four or five years. It’s within reason that we’ll lose a year of football in that, though, with the global health crisis.
Aouar is only 21 – you get an extra three years from your investment. Maybe that won’t make the biggest difference but it’s something to consider as we wait to see Liverpool’s business this summer.
