Signing Jadon Sancho would mean new terms for three Liverpool stars, according to reports. The Reds supposedly want the winger.
This is according to the Independent. They say that Liverpool do want Sancho and he’s been ‘made aware’ of their interest. They face a fight, however, against Manchester United.
One key part of the story, though, is around financials. This is obviously very relevant to the Reds as they just missed out on Timo Werner for financial reasons.
Well, apparently, United can overpower Liverpool financially when it comes to Sancho. It doesn’t sound as though that’s strictly to do with the initial £80m fee, however.
The Independent claims that Sancho’s terms would necessitate new deals for three Liverpool stars. Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane would all need new terms, according to the report.
Presumably, that’s because they’ve got clauses in their contracts to match the club’s highest earners – or at least be within touching distance.
So if Liverpool do pursue Sancho, they’ll do so knowing that it will cost them a lot of money all over the place.
What RTK has to say
It’s an interesting one that you don’t usually consider when thinking about clubs signing players. Effectively, Liverpool need to decide if Sancho is worth signing for an £80m fee, his own huge wages, and increasing the wages of some of the club’s highest earners.
That’s tricky, given the current economic climate. It led to the Reds pulling out of the race for Werner and it would certainly have an effect here.
It’ll come down to how good Sancho is, then. Is he worth all that money? It sounds as though that’s the big question at Liverpool right now.
