Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keeping an eye on Nicolo Zaniolo, according to reports out of Italy. The 20-year-old could be available for a very tempting price.
Another day, another report linking Liverpool with Zaniolo. This time it’s from Il Sussidiario who claim that Klopp is fronting Liverpool’s interest in the player.
Roma could well sell the player to raise cash this summer, apparently. In that case, they’d want to move him to Liverpool, rather than risk selling to Juventus.
He’s cost at least £45m, however, and that could rise to over £50m according to the report. But Klopp is watching the situation closely as the Reds could ‘certainly’ pay that fee for Zaniolo.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard of such a situation, either. Il Tempo claimed last month that the Reds had Zaniolo on their potential target list and that Roma were actively hoping to send him there.
Again, that was because of a need for money and that Liverpool were the best chance of getting it. Although, they had his price at closer to £70m before football’s pause – suggesting his price has dropped considerably.
Transfer Market Web made a claim of their own this week, too, saying that Liverpool did plan on making a move for Zaniolo.
What RTK has to say
The reports keep growing on this one, then. It’s difficult to tell how accurate they are, though, and it’s telling that this is all coming out of Italy.
It suggests that Liverpool themselves haven’t made this interest known to anyone. But that doesn’t mean it’s false. £45m for a player as young and talented as Zaniolo would be a bargain, assuming he recovers from his knee injury.
If he really would be that cheap, then we might just see Liverpool test the waters here. We can’t imagine they would be the only ones, though.
