Timo Werner is now entertaining the idea of a move to Italy and Serie A, according to reports. Liverpool’s inaction may have forced his hand.
CalcioMercato makes the claim. The Italian outlet believes that Liverpool are giving Werner some worrying signs by stalling the move. They believe the Reds simply aren’t sure if they should invest heavily in a player who won’t necessarily start games.
That caution forces Werner to look somewhere he previously didn’t consider, just in case a move to Anfield fails to materialise. That ‘somewhere’ is Serie A and Internazionale, who want Werner.
Lautaro Martinez could leave and they’d need a replacement. They’re unlikely to find better than Werner.
But any move to Inter does depend on Martinez leaving and CalcioMercarto are careful to mention that. So it would appear that Inter aren’t capable of quickly forcing a move. They may have to stall themselves.
What RTK has to say
This is pretty inevitable but far from the end of the world. Liverpool are taking their time, after all, and it’s in Werner’s best interests to consider his options. The current economic crisis will change plans and the Reds are unsure about spending £50m on Werner, per the Independent.
But there’s no sign of Inter making a move any time soon. If Martinez leaves and Liverpool still haven’t made up their minds, then we can worry.
Before then, Inter are in a very similar position – waiting to see the lay of the land before committing to anything.
Liverpool will certainly expect to beat Inter in any race for Werner and so things are in their hands. If they want to save the money, they can. If they want to sign Werner, they can.
We’ll just have to wait and see.
