Recent reports suggest Liverpool face a real fight to sign Timo Werner. Europe’s best all appear to want the German striker.
TuttoSport claimed on Wednesday that Inter see Werner as the ideal replacement for Lautaro Martinez. They’re far from the only ones looking at the RB Leipzig man, however.
The same article reports that Juventus, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United want Werner, too. You can add Barcelona to that list, too, seeing as Mundo Deportivo believe they’re looking at the German.
And so Liverpool’s task looks very tough. The Independent recently claimed that the Reds still lead the way for Werner, who should be available for around £50m.
Werner wants to head to Anfield, Liverpool still want him – it’s just a matter of timing. That’s something the Mirror backs up, as they claim the Reds saw Werner as one of their principal targets this summer.
Where those two outlets differ, however, is in Liverpool’s stance. The latter believes there will be no deals this summer, whereas the former feels there still could be.
Either way, Liverpool are being cautious this summer.
What RTK has to say
It still appears that Liverpool are in the driving seat and they just need to decide if this is a direction they want to head in. They could, of course, decide that £50m is too much right now and back out entirely.
And if they do, there is a line up of clubs ready to sign Werner. That means the Reds have little room for patience here. They can delay things, certainly, as the Bundesliga still needs to play out.
But they can’t put this one off too long. There’s no waiting for the next window here – Werner will move. Liverpool simply need to decide if he’s moving to them.
